FAQ

A: No, if you are looking for an animal that acts like a dog, buy a dog.  Although fennec can be sweet and tame, they are still essentially a wild animal.  They require special care and patience.

A: In my opinion, both genders make equally good pets.  The male do need to be neutered at about 6 months of age to prevent marking.

A: It depends on where you live.  Call your state Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Also check your city and county ordinances.

A: Most will adapt to living with dogs and cats, if they grow up with them.  Introduce them slowly, and supervise.  Small animals especially rodents and birds, they will consider prey.  Keep them separated.

A: I do offer airline shipping.  Contact me for current rates.

A: Not really.  Although I harness train them, they are primarily indoor pets, unless you have a special secure outdoor enclosure.  If you take them out on a harness and leash, make sure the harness fits well so they cannot escape.

Q: Do fennec foxes need to be vaccinated?
A:Your pup will get 2 distemper vaccines before you receive it.  No other distemper vaccines will be required.  You can get them vaccinated for rabies if you choose to.  Keep in mind that rabies vaccines are not proven effective for any other animals besides dogs and cats.  Having your fox vaccinated against rabies will not help if it bites someone.  It can still be confiscated and euthanized!

Q: Are fennec foxes good with small children?
A:
I would not recommend a fennec as a pet for a young child. It is possible to have one in a household with children.  Supervision is the key.  Foxes are more unpredictable and less tolerant than the average cat or dog.
